My entire career has been people telling me why the companies I started were ridiculous and not needed. Until they found themselves using them.

在我的職業生涯中一直都有人告訴我，我的公司是多麼荒謬和不被需要。知道有一天他們發現他們自己也在使用我公司的產品。

Smart contracts are about 6 years old.  Maybe the name isn’t accurate, but the utility is valid. 

智能合約已經誕生 6 年了，或許它的名字不夠準確，但其實用價值是存在的。

Smart contract 智能合約，這是區塊鏈行業中非常常用的詞，務必要記住。

accurate 精確的 adj.

另外兩個意思相近的詞是 correct 和 right，這兩個詞和 accurate 的差別在於：accurate 多用於表示數字、數據、性質精確。而 right 大部分时候可以和 correct 通用，表示某個事情真確與否。比如“這個答案是正確的”，用 correct answer 和 right answer 都可以。但是 right 多一層道德上正確的意思。

utility 實用性；公共設施 n. 常見用法 utility bills （水、電、瓦斯等日常消耗的）帳單

valid 有根據的；令人信服的，（法律上）有效的有根据的

例句：

My passport is still valid – 我的護照還有效。

The agreement is valid – 這個合約是有效的。

90 percent of blockchain companies will go broke.  99 percent of tokens will go broke. Just like 99 percent of early internet companies did.

90% 的區塊鏈公司將破產。99% 的虛擬貨幣將破產。就如同 99% 的早期的互聯網公司一樣。

但是勝者將主宰行業遊戲規則。這就是科技行業的運作方式。

token 代幣

我們在中文裡面說的“幣”，英文裡有兩種說法 – Token 和 Coin。在技術上 token 和 coin 是有差別的，但是據我觀察大部分還是會混用，比如此文就是。但是有一部分專業的人，尤其是在幣種項目方工作的人，他們會分得很清楚。像我之前就被一個在幣種項目方的人糾正過說他們的幣是 token 不是 coin，讓我不要搞錯了。

game changer 改變遊戲規則的人或企業，通常用來形容在行業里具有影響力的人物或者企業。

that’s the way xxx do/be – 這就是xxx的方式。

比如 That’s the way I love you – 這就是我愛你的方式。 That’s the way it is – 就是這樣的；世事如此。

But let’s take this back to the SEC. If they truly are principle-based they should be finding ways to enable startups to find funding and support. While protecting investors.

讓我們說回 SEC。如果他們真的是基於原則做事，那麼他們應該能找到方法讓新創公司能夠找到資金和支持，並且與此同時保護投資者。

SEC – Securities and Exchange Commission – 美國證券交易委員會

Security：常見意思是安全、安保。但在金融英語裡多表示證券的意思。

Exchange：常見意思是交換，比如 Exchange student 交換學生。但在金融英語裡多表示交易、交易所的意思。比如虛擬貨幣交易所 – Crypto Exchange；股票交易所 – Stock Exchange。

Commission：此處是委員會的意思。在幣圈中 commission 還有一個常用意思是“佣金”。比如 A 介紹 B 在交易所註冊並交易，那麼 A 可能會得到 B 的交易手續費的 x% 作為佣金，這個佣金就可以用 commission 來表示。

base 基於；基礎；基地

在外企交流中有一種常見說法是某人 base 在某個地方 – Nissa base 在台北，Michael base 在上海⋯⋯表示常駐地的意思。

enable 使其能夠

en- 是“使⋯”的前綴。比如 rich 表示富有、有錢，那麼 enrich 的意思就是使其有錢，使其變得富有。類似的前綴還有 em-，也是表示“使⋯”的前綴。比如 power 意思是權力，那麼 empower 就是使其有權力、使其有能力。阿里巴巴等互聯網公司常用的“賦能”，翻譯成英文就可以使用 empower 這個詞。

The country went through more than a decade of falling numbers of companies trading on exchanges.  It hurt the economy. It slowed innovation. Congress had to respond by creating exemptions.

這個國家經歷了數十年的上市公司數量的下降。這傷害了經濟，減緩了創新速度。以至於國會不得不創造一些豁免條款來應對。

Part 5

While I think many of your criticisms of crypto are very valid, they don’t invalidate the impact the industry can have on the economy.

雖然我認為你對數字貨幣的批評很多是正確的，但這並不能無視區塊鏈行業對經濟的積極影響。

invalidate 使⋯無效

valid 加上表示否定的前綴 in-，其意思就變成了無效的、不正確的。類似的詞比如 correct + in- 前綴，就變成了 incorrect 不正確的。

-ate 表示“使⋯”的後綴，比如 liber 自由 + ate，就變成了 liberate – 使⋯自由、解放。例句：He liberated the slaves。他解放了奴隸。

impact 影響

influence 影響

這兩個詞的差別在於 impact 表示比較激烈的影響；influence 表示比較潛移默化的影響。

With all due respect, Crypto Derangement Syndrome is just as big a problem as the crypto maxis overhyping crypto.

恕我直言，對虛擬貨幣的過度貶低和對虛擬貨幣的過度炒作一樣都是一個大問題。
